Daniel's Background
Sailing for the first time at 5 years old, Daniel took to it early and quickly broadened his scope through dinghys to racing small keelboats. At 13 years old he participated in his first overnight race, and knew that offshore would be the future path. Through sailing the classic East Coast races including Newport-Bermuda and Route Halifax-St. Pierre, he left a promising future through the Marine Institute to pursue grand prix offshore racing with Canadian Ocean Racing onboard their IMOCA 60 O Canada. Since then all energies have been applied to gaining a role on the sailing team in The Ocean Race 2022-23, using Whitbread 60 and VO65s as stepping stones.
Daniel's Goals
The Ocean Race 2022-23
The Ocean Race 2025-26
Vendee Globe 2028
Los Angeles 2028 Olympics (Mixed Double-handed)
The Plan
Using the upcoming Ocean Race as a springboard, Daniel will begin his long journey to the pinnacle events of ocean racing, including the Olympic Offshore Event, The Ocean Race, and the Vendée Globe. With the experience gained from The Ocean Race 2022-23, the viability of launching a successful Olympic campaign is vastly improved. Building on both these experiences, the viability of becoming the first Canadian to ever finish the Vendée Globe Ocean Race - the premier solo around the world race - becomes a realistic goal the entire country could celebrate.
