The Peter Kelly Memorial Fund has been established to promote and encourage young sailors to compete at regional, national, and international levels. Funds will be used to support this mission by providing financial support to deserving athletes. Eligible expenses will be reimbursed and may include travel, non-capital equipment, coaching and participation/ regatta entry fees.

Peter Kelly was instrumental in building the youth race program at Pointe Claire Yacht Club and promoting opportunities for talented young local sailors. Peter was a co-founder of the TRY Regatta (the training regatta for youth) which became the most popular youth sailing event in Quebec. Peter’s association with that event and with junior sailing continued for many years. At the time of his untimely death, Peter was Vice-Commodore of Pointe Claire Yacht Club. Peter had long advocated for the establishment of a fund to permit young athletes to compete.

Once a young sailor has been identified by the Advisory Committee, that individual will apply to become a recognized Wind Athletes Canada athlete. They may then claim reimbursement for eligible expenses associated with their competition and training activities in the amount as recommended by the Advisory Committee. All funds will be reimbursed directly to the athlete(s).
