Great Lakes Sailing is a match racing and keelboat team founded by Cameron and Harrison Bruce. It functions with a rotating group of talented sailors from all around Canada who share a similar goal: representing Canada at the highest level while being involved in the sport for life.
Since the beginning of Cam and Harry's sailing careers, they have eagerly embraced the challenge of competing internationally, whether in ILCAs or 470s. Over the years, they have achieved significant milestones, including 6th at ILCA North Americas and 2nd at the i420 Canadians, which demonstrate our commitment and potential. Gradually shifting from exclusively dinghies towards keelboats, the pair have become indomitable members of the Dalhousie Sailing Team. Competing in many C420 and keelboat regattas, the pair regularly sharpen their skills with the Dal team during the fall and winter collegiate seasons.
When the academic year ends, the Bruce duo are joined by a select group of skilled crew members, forming the Great Lakes Sailing Team. This team is bound by a shared vision: to represent Canada in various high-level sailing events. Whether it's match racing, fleet racing, or long-distance sailing, these talented and passionate individuals are united in their unwavering commitment to give their all at every event and proudly represent our country.
2024 Goals
Our attention is currently on our next major regatta, the FISU University World Games in Lake Garda, Italy, in June 2024! This prestigious event brings together the best university sailing teams from around the world, providing a platform for us to showcase our skills and represent Canada. Our current goal is a podium finish at the FISU World Championship.
FISU University World Championships Crew List:
- Cameron Bruce – Skipper
- Harrison Bruce – Main / Tactics
- Rosie Sbrolla – Trim
- Rachel Green – Pit
- Will Mauchan – Bow
The team comprises active Canadian university and youth sailors with a broad and competitive skill set in keelboats and dinghies and a love of competitive sailing.
For the balance of 2024, Great Lakes Sailing is committed to representing Canada at the 2024 Youth Match Racing World Championships. We have a rigorous training regimen in place, which includes a j/70 spring training series at the Port Credit YC, to ensure we are fully prepared for these high-level competitions. We will continue to compete whenever possible and follow this training regimen to achieve our goals.
Great Lakes Sailing's goal throughout the fall, winter, and spring of 2025 is to win the CICSA (Canadian Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association) season championship. The CICSA season score is constructed from a collection of regattas with different weighted scores based on the attendance and merit of different events.
How Your Support Helps
The financial cost significantly hinders Great Lakes Sailing's event attendance. Your generous funding will be allocated towards travel expenses, registration fees, boat charters, coaching/training, and accommodation. These are essential elements for our participation in each event, and your support will directly contribute to our ability to attend as many regattas as possible.
No donation is too small or goes unnoticed! Every dollar you contribute drives us closer to our goal of representing Canada and YOU at the FISU University World Championships. Your support is not just financial, it's a vote of confidence in our team and our goals. Thank you for being a part of the Great Lakes Sailing Team's journey.
