As of 2024, Bella J’s owner, Ray Rhinelander, has decided to step back from offshore racing to allow more opportunities for the next generation. We are grateful to have the continued support from Ray to use J/133 Bella J as the platform for our program as it shifts hands. This change in our program results in much higher racing costs for our young athletes, who will be responsible for funding all future offshore races. These costs come from flights, accommodations, race registration, fuel, deliveries, berthing – just to name a few! We are hoping that our generous friends and supporters are willing to help us pursue our dreams by donating to our team.
As this transition occurs, our team are committed to sharing our passion and knowledge with the next generation through our offshore development program, which bridges youth sailors to our offshore team. Over the past three years, our team has helped fifteen young athletes transition from dinghy racing to keelboat racing. We believe that this program will help the growth and sustainability of the sport in Canada! The Bella J Team is also committed to providing equal opportunity for females in this male dominated sport. We have nearly 40% female representation in our offshore team, including a female skipper, Sarah Nicholson. Sarah began as a rookie on our team and has evolved to become a skilled offshore racer at age 26. With fewer than 5% of major offshore events having female skippers, our team is proud to be increasing diversity in sailing!
Your donation will not only support our team's pursuit of excellence in offshore sailing but also contribute to a more inclusive and diverse sailing community for the next generation.
