Please meet Callum Ruch!
Callum is 17 years old and began racing dinghies when he was 9, in the Opti class. Sailing for him is about more than just the competition, it is trying to harness the weather, an uncontrollable factor, into sport in the best way possible. He is a different person on the water, the racing starts and his mind locks in! Sailing brings him to life!
Callum moved to the skipper role in a 29er late in the Fall in 2021 and has attended regattas here in Canada, the US and also in the UK for Open Worlds in 2023. In 2024, Callum and his partner Nicole Otton, sailed a dream season - Winning 29er North Americans, Canadians, and Sail Canada Youth Championships. They came 3rd in the US Youth Championships, and had so much fun representing Canada at the World Sailing Youth Championnships at Lake Garda, Italy in July 2024.
For the 2025 season, Callum was accepted onto the Inaugural U21 North American Waszp Team, which he is so excited to be a part of joining the Waszp Swarm! He would welcome any support towards this season as the team are travelling far and wide across North America and also to 2025 Waszp Games in Weymouth, UK. There will be about 250 Waszps at that regatta and he just can't wait!
